FAMS Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (Singapore)
Dr Lim Kheng Ann is a consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He is a graduate from the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore in the 80s. He is trained in OMS at the then Government Dental Clinic and Singapore General Hospital and obtained his Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh after completing his basic OMS training. He continued his advanced surgical training in OMS at the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, National Dental Centre. His training includes OMS surgical exposure at Singapore General Hospital, Changi Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital as well as Alexandra Hospital.
He obtained a government scholarship to study “advanced surgical implantology” and spent nine months in Sweden in three hospitals including the Central Hospital in Halmstad; the prestigious Salgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg; and the Central Hospital in Vasteras. In his stint in Sweden, he studied the finer points in surgical techniques for dental implantology as well as cranio-facial implantology.
Upon his return, he is inducted as a Fellow to the Chapter of Dental Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
He held the appointment of clinical tutor in the Master of Dental Surgery (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) program from 1995 – 2003. From 2002 to 2003, he served as a part-time lecturer, Division of Graduate Dental Studies, Master of Dental Surgery (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program)/ “MDS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)” at the National University of Singapore. He was also visiting lecturer, Master of Science (Biomedical Engineering) / “MSC (BME)” program, Nanyang Technological University.
Professionally, he has served on the executive committee of the Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons (Singapore) for many years in various appointments including the post of President which he held for two terms. He was also member of the executive committee of the Chapter of Dental Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He also served on the dental specialty board for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is currently serving on the Dental Specialty Accreditation Committee, a committee which examines and decides on the entry into the Specialist Register for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr Lim has been practicing implant surgery since 1995. He is familiar with many European implant systems including the original Branemark implant system. Dr Lim has been actively involved in teaching with several European implant companies since 2005. He was the first to perform the NobelBiocare Teeth-in-an-Hour procedure in Singapore. One of the highlights of his teaching stints was an invitation by NobelBiocare to perform a live surgery in Hong Kong to demonstrate this technique during the NobelBiocare Hong Kong World tour in 2006. He was also invited to be a speaker and trainer in the NobelBiocare Singapore World Tour in 2008. He has since conducted numerous exclusive courses in Singapore for the more renowned implant companies. Including AstraTech implant company. He has also conducted courses on bone grafting techniques for Geistlich.. He remains active in the implant teaching circuit to date.
Being located in Novena Medical Centre, Dr Lim organized and conducted in house continuing dental education courses and lectures for the dentists (and invited guests) from Novena Medical and Specialist Centres from 2011 to 2014.
Since 2012, Dr Lim has been a visiting Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon to Unity Denticare Dental service. In the early years, he had conducted successful suturing courses and lectures for the Unity Denticare dentists. He is currently still serving Unity Denticare in the same but reduced capacity.
