Composite bonding is the least expensive cosmetic dental restoration whereby composite resin is applied to a tooth surface, sculpted to an ideal shape, hardened and polished for an ideal smile. It is used to fill in gaps, restore chipped, cracked or stained teeth, or as tooth colored filling for small cavities. Composite bonding is also suitable for patients who have teeth with dark stains that do not respond to whitening.
Composite bonding can usually be done in 1 visit by our dentist and the procedure usually takes about 10-25 minutes to complete a tooth. There is no downtime or side effects for composite bonding and the results may last for several years. Composite bonding is more susceptible to staining or chipping than veneers and may need to be replaced or resurfaced if it gets discolored after 5-6 years. For larger restorations, bonding may not be suitable and veneers or crowns may be needed.
